Hazard Warning Labels
Kaizen means continual change. New changes can resuly in new hazards in the workplace. Whether it's a different method for storing cleaning supplies or the installation of new equipment, visual communication concerning hazards is an important component that can not be ignored.
People develop work habits based on their working environment. If that environment changes, whether it is a physical change such as the installation of a new machine, or an abstract change such as a change in the sequence of a process, people will need help adjusting to that change. If the change introduces a new hazard, or changes an existing hazard, then labels and signs are a required part of that change.
Depending on the severity of the hazard, there are several types of labels and signs that are used.
A DANGER sign or label is used when the hazard presents a life-threatening danger.
WARNING labels and signs are used for less severe hazards, that still present a serious risk of injury.
A CAUTION sign or label is appropriate to warn of potential hazards that could cause minor or moderate injury, or damage to equipment.
The type of sign that is required is determined by OSHA and ANSI standards.
